To all current U10, U11, U12 and U13 boys and girls coaches and parents. Attached (below)  is the current version of the  Evaluation Policies and Procedures (It includes coach selection procedure and playing up policy). Some important points:

* All U11 to U14 (going into these age groups next season) Evaluations are run by the Technical Director with the help and support of age group coaches and age group coordinators. U15 to U18 Evaluations are coach-driven and do not require registration like the U11 to U14 Evaluations do.

Accessing UBC fields during the Olympics

We have just been informed by UBC that there have been changes made to the road closures at UBC during the Olympics. There is a pdf below with a map that details the new, and we're told final, road closures.

What affects us directly is that the two northbound lanes on East Mall will be closed to all traffic and the two southbound lanes will now remain southbound rather than one going north and one going south.

This means access to Warren, Varsity and Baseball turf cannot be via East Mall. All car traffic must go along SW Marine and turn right on Stadium Road. From there turn right into the Thunderbird Stadium parking lot and walk the last 100m to East Mall. Cross East Mall and you are at the turf fields.

Field status: Feb 6 and 7...the good weather continues

U6: Still in the gym.
All Pt. Grey home grass fields (Jericho Hostel, Upper Trimble, Lower Trimble, Carnarvon, Memorial West) are open with a user discretion. All fields should be fine and will be lined.

Please remember that Refs have discretion to call a game off if they feel the field is unsafe.

Call, don't email, your opponents to confirm game details tonight.

Westside Soccer Player Development training program is open to all U9 to U12  players interested in a competitive, tiered development program. Player groupings will be based on placing like-minded and like-skilled players together. This will allow each player to train and develop in an environment appropriate to their ability.

WSPD training sessions focus on skill development, teamwork and age-appropriate tactical play. The program is offered by Point Grey, Kerrisdale and Dunbar soccer clubs and is run and administered by their respective Technical Directors. The WSPD training program is offered in the fall, winter and spring.

Westside Coaches Seminars: Presentations available for download

Thanks to all those who attended on Sunday. I've put the two presentations I did online as some people asked for a copy of them. They're PowerPoints done on a Mac. The one on Reducing Goals Against is a very small file but the International Travel With Youth Teams is about 47MB.

CALL TO ACTION - Support for the Prince of Wales Site for a Synthetic Grass Field

Vancouver Park Board has added Prince of Wales Secondary as one of the potential synthetic grass field sites to be considered for construction in 2010. Point Grey Soccer Club strongly supports consideration of this site for a new synthetic turf field.

It is very important for the community to voice support for this site. Over 60% of the youth soccer players in Vancouver play for the three Westside clubs of Point Grey, Dunbar and Kerrisdale. This is an excellent location to serve youth soccer players and other turf users.

In support of the Prince of Wales site, Point Grey Soccer Club asks you to take action. Here's what you can do.
