Concussion Safety in Soccer

Concerned about concussions in youth soccer? The National Brain and Spinal Cord Injury Prevention Foundation has a website loaded with sport concussion safety information.

The website also has a good general soccer safety handout (pdf download) for parents that has been prepared in conjunction with the Canadian Soccer Association.

Finally, the Canadian Academy of Sports Medicine, has created a Position Statement regarding "Head Injuries and Concussion in Soccer" (pdf download). It's a short read with a couple of important take home messages: you don't have to lose consciousness to have a concussion. And no player should continue to play if a concussion has occurred (until further evaluated).
