Point Grey United U17 Boys win 2009 Burrard Cup!
Point Grey United U17 Boys won a hard fought battle with the Mount Seymour Royals to win the Burrard Cup on a wintry night last week. The game was fairly even with the first half ending 0-0. Point Grey put the pressure on in the second half, only to see their chances denied by posts, cross bars, acrobatic saves and missed shots. Finally, with 15 minutes to go, Marcus Wong slammed home a partially deflected shot from 22 yards out. It looked like that would be good enough when, with just 15 seconds remaining, the MS Royals scored a questionable goal in a wild scramble. This led straight to penalties. After the first five rounds it was tied 3-3 with Max Wessman, Ian Pickett, and Eric Choi scoring for PG United and the Royals goaltender making 2 great stops on the other 2 shooters. Shiva Mudaliar also made 2 great saves for us. In the sudden death 6th round Isaac Powrie (with nerves of steel) scored and Shiva saved for the victory.-- Story by David Fraser, U17 Boys Coordinator
